The Junior Chamber at Virginia Commonwealth University is the newest chapter in the Capital Region. The Jaycees are always growing!
In 2008 the Virginia Jaycees changed their bylaws to allow individuals over the age of 18 to join the Jaycees, but the bylaw change allowed individual chapters to retain different age requirements. The previous age requirement statewide had been 21.
The Richmond Jaycees decided to keep the minimum age requirement of their chapter at 21, but also felt that it would be inappropriate to deny membership in the Jaycees to those individuals who were under 21, but determined to learn new leadership skills and help their communities.
So, in 2009, the Richmond Jaycees extended a collegiate chapter on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. The VCU chapter is open to all students at the university and provides service to both the VCU community and the surrounding area.
